Maximilianstrasse (Maximilian Street) is one of the most major streets in München's Altstadt, beginning at the Residenz, and heading due East through the district of Lehel until the Isar. It has a statue of Maximilian I, first King of Bayern before the Residenz, and at its opposite end, a statue of Maximilian II.Maximilianstrasse
Rear of the base of the statue.
This is a government building for Upper Bavaria, standing on the North side of Maximilianstrasse, just West of the statue.
A statue in front of the building. It is of Erasmus Graf von Deroy, 'Kingly Bavarian General of the Infantry'.
An interesting building on the East side of a street which runs North from Maximilianstrasse, through the government building.
On the corner of Maximilianstrasse and the ring of streets which make the Altstadt's border (in this case, Thomas-Wimmer-Ring and Karl-Schnargl-Ring), there's an underground walkway to assist in crossing the street. For some reason, the escalators have been taken out and plants put in their place. This is the Northeast corner.
On the South side of Maximilianstrasse, across from the Government building, stands the Staatliche Museum für Volkerkunde (State Museum of Ethnology).
One of the statues on either side of the entrance. This one is on the right.
This statue is on the left of the entrance.
Close-up of the entrance.
Close-up above the entrance. The inscription says, 'My people with honour and as example'.
A shot along the length of Maximilianstrasse, looking East. In the far background, the Maximilianeum is visible, and the Maximilian II statue (though the latter only barely). The point at which the buildings on the South (right) side seem to disappear is the Ring, beyond which the buildings (Staatliche Museum für Volkerkunde) are set back from the street.
